Wordpress is an Awesome Content Management System

Larry’s Lovin’ SpoonfulCurrently up to this point I’ve strictly used Wordpress as a blogging platform for myself. I’d also heard others talk about what a great content management system it is for regular websites as well, but I didn’t have any direct experience myself.

Recently one of my good friends asked my to build a quick website for his mom who owns a restaurant in my former hometown of Kingman, Kansas. I agreed and decided that I would use Wordpress and the Cutline Theme to build a customized standalone website for her. They really didn’t need anything too fancy, but with this option it would provide for an easy way to allow them to modify content easily on a daily basis.

Overall this was extremely easy to implement and I was impressed with the way that Wordpress can be used as a CMS for almost any site. On top of that because it has such a large user base, there are a ton of great plugins are available that can enhance the functionality of your site as well. So if your looking for free and easy to use CMS for your next website I highly recommend Wordpress.

Great job on that theme, Clarke! I just popped across and had a look. It feels really slick.

I’m astonished at what can be done with Cutline if people just take the time.

You did an awesome job on that! I agree with you and Rory. Cutline and Wordpress are both great tools. I just recommended them both to a friend this past week.

Thanks for the encouraging words. Really you can do just about anything you want with Cutline to create a great site. After sitting down, I had all of the graphics, CSS, and other code modifications pretty much done in about 3 hours one afternoon.

Once you get a good feel for it you can create some nice looking stuff in a short amount of time.

I’m curious about the gallery. Did you use a Wordpress plug-in or something else?

Hi Clarke,

I’m glad to have come across your website. At first I was eager to know - from where did you get your current Wordpress Theme? Scrolled all the way to the link at the bottom - You’re the designer who customized CUTLINE?

http://www.larryslovinspoonful.com/ is the first ever Wordpress powered website I’ve been to, that is more like a WEBSITE (Not a blog with regular posting).

Is this realy possible with Wordpress? How is it done? Can you refer me links to some tutorials wherein I can get more information? This is really amazing.

Hi Allan,

I’m glad that you like the site. Yes it is definitely possible to do sites like this in Wordpress.

Alot of what you see is knowing how to modify and create CSS to customize the overall look and feel of the site. If you want to learn the best thing to do is just jump right in and start learning everything you can. The best way to learn is to experiment yourself. I also put a couple of links to some resources below that should give you a good starting point as well.

The Cutline site itself http://cutline.tubetorial.com has great information on just about everything. Also here is a link to great book on CSS http://www.cssmastery.com .

Let me know if you have more questions and I’d more more than happy to try and help.

Clarke,

Extremely useful information. I am on a board of directors and they are looked at doing a redesign of their site and I have been tasked to get the site looking a little better. This may prove to be of great help.

Thanks for sharing.
