April 25th, 2007 — Web Design
Currently up to this point I’ve strictly used Wordpress as a blogging platform for myself. I’d also heard others talk about what a great content management system it is for regular websites as well, but I didn’t have any direct experience myself.
Recently one of my good friends asked my to build a quick website for his mom who owns a restaurant in my former hometown of Kingman, Kansas. I agreed and decided that I would use Wordpress and the Cutline Theme to build a customized standalone website for her. They really didn’t need anything too fancy, but with this option it would provide for an easy way to allow them to modify content easily on a daily basis.
Overall this was extremely easy to implement and I was impressed with the way that Wordpress can be used as a CMS for almost any site. On top of that because it has such a large user base, there are a ton of great plugins are available that can enhance the functionality of your site as well. So if your looking for free and easy to use CMS for your next website I highly recommend Wordpress.

So it looks like Anthony tagged me with his post on “Why Do I Blog”. Actually this is a really good question that I’ve thought about myself from time to time since I started this blog last December.
Well over the last few years I really started getting into web design as something that I found really interesting and enjoyable to do. I think I designed my first website with FrontPage around 7 years ago and lets just say that I hope a cached version of it never surfaces on the web again. Needless to say my design skills have gotten much better, but I still have a long ways to go.

April 13th, 2007 — Clarkes Thoughts
Well here it is in the middle of April and it is going to snow in Kansas City tonight. I’m so sick of winter and it should have been gone a long time ago. In my entire life I don’t think I’ve ever seen it snow in April, so maybe that will be exciting, yeah right.
Anyway I’m flying to Dallas in the morning with my brother to take in some Nascar racing action at Texas Motor Speedway. The main thing I’m excited about is that the weather is supposed to be nice in Texas and more importantly it will be nice to getaway. Hopefully when I return on Monday night, winter will be gone from Kansas.
April 11th, 2007 — Clarkes Thoughts
Here lately I’ve been doing quite a bit of research in relation to some affiliate marketing projects that I have in the works. I have been spending considerable amounts researching different markets and products that I may want to promote. Everyday during my research it never ceases to amaze me the amount of get rich quick products that promise to make users boatloads of cash with very little work at all. Unfortunately at this time this is very profitable for those selling these programs. The real problem here is that you get people who really don’t want to work hard for anything, they just want you to hand them the magic key to success. These are the types of people that fall victim and buy these products and end up making someone else alot of money other than themselves.

April 5th, 2007 — Web Analytics

I came across HitTail the other day and decided to sign up for it to give it a try. Basically you install a snippet of code on your website and HitTail monitors all incoming search traffic to your site. You can see where specific search queries and every unique keyword that is used to find your site. It really helps out to find out the long-tail keywords that visitors are using to find your site. It can give you the opportunity to capitalize on this long-tail traffic that probably has a very good chance of converting.
